Volleyball: 2023 Season Preview

Head Coach Dawnis Guevara leads the De Anza College women's volleyball team for her 25th season – with a pair of matches against last year's top two teams on August 26.

De Anza will face defending state champion Feather River twice this campaign; first on August 26 at American River and again on August 31 in Quincy.

As part of a non-conference tri-match on August 26, De Anza will also face the host ARC Beavers (No. 2 in final state rankings).

Guevara scheduled a pre-season scrimmage at Coast-North champion College of San Mateo on August 24 (4 p.m.) to help prepare the Lions for a tough opening month.

De Anza will play 13 matches in a span of 21 days – before school starts on Sept. 25. Of the 17 non-conference matches, 11 are against teams that qualified for the 2022 playoffs.

"This year's strength of schedule will be just as tough and we are looking forward to the challenge," Guevara said.

Last season, after playing a very tough schedule, De Anza qualified for the postseason and advanced to the second round of the Northern California Regionals – before losing to BIG 8 champion San Joaquin Delta College. The Lions will visit the Mustangs on August 30.

The team's roster features 16 players, comprised of six sophomores and 10 freshmen. The roster breaks down to five players that could see time at outside hitter, four middle blockers, four right sides, three setters, and three defensive specialists.

De Anza has qualified for the 3C2A playoffs in six consecutive seasons.
