State Champs Earn 3C2A Scholar Team Award

The De Anza College women's badminton team continued its domination on the court and in the classroom. The 2023 undefeated state champions were also recognized as the 3C2A Scholar Team.

The Lions capped a prefect season with a cumulative team GPA of 3.66.

The award will be presented on March 27 during the annual 3C2A Convention at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento. This is the second straight year, De Anza College captured this "double championship."

Head Coach Mark Landefeld, who has guided the program to four state titles (2013, 2014, 2022, and 2023), continues to attract student-athletes who have goals of excelling in academics and competition.

"While we try to be a little flexible in our scheduling, there is a real tension between our program's time and energy expectations on the court - and these student-athletes' desire to be successful in the classroom," Landefeld said.

"Many are carrying extra loads in their classwork and we play the most competitive schedule in California. I can't explain how proud I am that these women are able to succeed in both endeavors. Academic success is joined with championships as part of the De Anza College Badminton DNA."

The 2024 Lions open the new season on Feb. 29 against San Deigo Mesa.
