Lions Hunt Perfection
The nation's only junior college title game featuring two undefeated teams will take place on Saturday when the De Anza College Mountain Lions (10-0) play at Monterey Peninsula College (10-0) to decide the Northern California Football Conference American Division championship.
The 1 p.m. game will stream live at https://vimeo.com/event/4773343
The Lions, champions of the Pacific-7 League, are coming off three straight comeback victories - needing a touchdown on their final possession and a defensive stop to end each game. Those wins came against teams that finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the PAC-7.
Meanwhile, the Lobos clinched the Golden Coast League with four straight blowout victories over the teams with losing records (fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh places in the GCL).
MPC and De Anza are equally impressive in most every major statewide statistic.
MPC's offense ranks first in NorCal scoring at 47.9 points per game, while the De Anza ranks second at 43.1 ppg.
On defense, MPC ranks second in points alllowed (13.1) and De Anza is fourth (14.7).
The Lions offense is led by its air attack - No. 1 in NorCal (304.7 yards per game) - and PAC-7 Most Valuable Player sophomore QB Antevious Jackson.
The Lobos have the top-ranked rushing team (232 ypg), led by sophomore RB Kieryus Boone.
Saturday's winner will join Pasadena City College (11-0) - the Southern California Football Conference American Division champions - and the state's only undefeated teams in 2024.
