Bio

Louise Ortiz (formerly Madrigal) joined the De Anza College Athletics Department in January of 2016 - and became a tenrued faculty member in 2019-2020.

Ortiz serves as Counselor for the Physical Education & Athletics Division, REACH, and FAST programs - working primarily with 400+ student-athletes and 600+ Kinesiology majors. She is also the department's Assistant Athletics Director for Student Success & Equity. 

Her primary duties consist of assisting students with the process of selecting classes, creating education plans, and establishing academic goals. She also provided students with information regarding on-campus resources, transfer requirements, CCCAA, NCAA, and NAIA requirements.

Ortiz served as a representative on Academic Senate; and is the club advisor for DA's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She serves as the department liaison between Athletics and Student Success & Retention Services programs, including Umoja and Men of Color.

She is a member of the California Community College Counselors/Advisors Academic Association for Athletics (3C4A) and the Association of California Community College Eligibility Specialists (ACCCES).

Prior to De Anza, Madrigal served as the Athletics Counselor, Retention Coordinator, and Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Allan Hancock College. In addition to her work at AHC, she also completed an internship as an Academic Coordinator for the Athletic Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Ortiz earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Human Development from California State University, East Bay, and a Master’s in Education from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
